SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Parkside wrestling team turned in a historic performance at the NCAA Division II National Championships, finishing as National Runner-Ups for the first time in program history. The Rangers were led by National Champion Shane Corrigan and four additional All-Americans: Jalen Spuhler, Easton Worachek, Brody Hemauer, and Sullivan Ramos.
Parkside scored 78 points as a team, finishing just behind Nebraska Kearney, which totaled 83 points. This marks the best finish in program history. The previous best finish came in 2018, when the Rangers placed third as a team.
No. 4 Shane Corrigan made history as the first Ranger from Parkside in the Division II era to win a National Championship at 125 pounds, securing the program's first national title since 2018 when Nick Becker won the 174-pound championship. Corrigan also earned All-American honors for the fourth time in his career while capturing the 125-pound NCAA National Championship title. His appearance in the finals also marked the first time a Ranger had competed in the national championship match since Shane Gantz in 2022. He advanced to the championship bout with a 7-0 decision over No. 1 Isaiah Gamez of Adams State in the semifinals. In the title match, Corrigan defeated Anthony Aniciete of Tiffin to claim the 125-pound NCAA National Championship by a 13-4 major decision. Corrigan finishes the season with a 20-4 record.
No. 2 Jalen Spuhler finished his season earning All-American honors for the third time in his career along with a third-place finish. Spuhler fell in a tight overtime match to Cody Thompson of Colorado School of Mines. In the consolation semifinals, Jalen defeated Angel Flores of Adams State with a 12-4 major decision to advance to the third-place match. He secured the third-place title after defeating No. 6 Gabriel Onorato in a 6-3 decision. Spuhler finishes the season with a 28-3 record.
No. 4 Easton Worachek earned All-American honors after placing fourth at the NCAA National Championships. Worachek opened the day with a loss in the semifinals to No. 1 Gabe Johnson of Central Oklahoma. In his next bout, Easton bounced back with a win by fall over No. 6 Owen Cline of Colorado Mesa at 3:23 to advance to the third-place match. He fell in a tight 8-4 decision to No. 3 Aaden Valdez, earning a fourth-place finish. Worachek finishes the season with a 28-7 record.
No. 8 Brody Hemauer earned All-American honors for the second time in his career after placing fifth at the NCAA National Championships. Hemauer opened his day at 165 pounds by defeating No. 6 Ivan Smith Jr. of New Mexico Highlands in the consolation quarterfinals with an 11-3 major decision. He then came up short against No. 3 Sam Richardson of McKendree in a tight 8-7 decision. Hemauer secured his fifth-place title after a forfeit from No. 1 Nolan Gessler of Tiffin. He finishes the season with a 21-10 record.
Sullivan Ramos completed his freshman season by earning All-American honors and placing fifth at the NCAA National Championships. In his semifinal bout, Ramos came up short against No. 4 Damon Ashworth of Central Missouri. He then fell to No. 13 Wyatt Reisz of Colorado School of Mines in a tight 4-1 decision. Ramos bounced back to claim the fifth-place title after defeating No. 5 Kaden Hart of Nebraska Kearney in an 11-8 decision. He finishes the season with a 25-9 overall record.
