Rangers Open GLIAC Play at Northern Michigan on Friday

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside men's soccer team kicks off Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Friday, Sept. 19, traveling to Marquette, Mich., to take on Northern Michigan at the at the Superior Dome. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT as the Rangers look to rebound after a tough 2–1 loss at Maryville on Sept. 11 and a canceled home opener against Upper Iowa on Sept. 14.

Parkside comes into the GLIAC opener after a challenging non-conference slate, falling 5–0 at Quincy and 2–1 at Maryville while earning a 2–2 draw at Lewis. Senior forward Eduardo Aguilera-Guillen leads the Rangers with 2 goals on 7 shots. Freshman Carlos Manjarrez has tallied 2 assists, while senior Jaime Vazquez scored his first goal of 2025 against Maryville. Goalkeeper Daniyal Rana has recorded 22 saves in three starts, averaging 7.33 saves per match.

SCOUTING NORTHERN MICHIGAN:

Northern Michigan (1-0-3) enters GLIAC play unbeaten through four matches, owning a 1-0-3 record after a 2–1 win over Lawrence Tech, a 1–1 draw at Lake Erie, and scoreless draws with both Northwood and Lewis. The Wildcats bring back several key pieces from last season, including three 2024 All-GLIAC selections in Alessandro Scialanga (First Team All-GLIAC), Tommaso Lami (Second Team All-GLIAC), and Quint Van Roij Honorable Mention All-GLIAC). Offensively, senior forward Teun Van Gansewinkel leads the team with 2 goals on 14 shots, while sophomore Davian Gumbs has 1 goal and 1 assist. Luca Rosen, James Carr, and Scialanga have one assist apiece. Defensively, senior goalkeeper Asaf Kristal has been a standout, allowing just 2 goals in 360 minutes for a 0.50 goals-against average with 12 saves and two shutouts. Northern Michigan ranks among the GLIAC leaders in both goals-against average (0.50) and shutouts (2) through four matches.

Parkside leads the all-time series with Northern Michigan 10-2-1, including a 1-0 win last year in Marquette on Sept. 29, 2024. Northern Michigan claimed the second meeting of 2024 with a 1-0 victory in Kenosha on Nov. 3, 2024. The Rangers are 7-0 all-time in Marquette against the Wildcats.
