PITTSBURG, Kan. – Parkside track & field senior
Carolin Bothe competed in the 800-meter prelims at the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships on Friday. Bothe placed 16
th with a time of 2:11.64. Unfortunately, she was unable to advance to the finals on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bothe started on the far end of the field in the outside lane in heat two of the 800m prelim. The heat got out faster than the previous heat and Bothe found herself at the back end of the pack to start the race. She was able to make a move late in the race, passing Augustana's Cami Streff to move from sixth to fifth in her heat, but ran out of track before she could make any more progress toward the front. From her heat, Lincoln (Mo.)'s Kelly-Ann Beckford and Grand Valley State's Taryn Chapko will advance to tomorrow's final.
AN AMAZING SEASON
Bothe had herself quite the indoor season. She set the Parkside school record in the 800m back on Feb. 11 with a time of 2:09.96. She won four races during the season, along with 10 top-5 finishes. She also earned All-GLIAC recognition in the 800 and the Distance Medley Relay at the GLIAC Championships on Feb. 26-27.
HEAR FROM COACH MAAS
"I am so very proud of Carolin! Coming into indoors her PR was 2:14. She got down to 2:09, made NCAAs, broke our school record and an off day for her is now 2:11. She works so hard, never complains, and has a huge heart. She'll be back for vengeance outdoors; you can count on it! She has absolutely made the Ranger family proud!"
UP NEXT
The Rangers will return to action on April 2, when they kick off their outdoor season at the Benedictine Invite.
