(Feb. 4, 2016)-- It wasn't easy but the 23rd-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball squad extended its Great Lakes Valley Conference home winning streak to 30 games on Thursday night, fending off William Jewell College 73-69 inside DeSimone Gymnasium in a contest that neither team held a lead greater than seven points.

The host Rangers (17-3, 10-2 GLVC) came out of the gate swinging, building a seven-point lead after scoring eight of the first nine points. The Cardinals (7-13, 2-10 GLVC) kept within striking distance and scored six straight to tie the game at 27 with 1:46 left before intermission.
Andy Mazurczak drained a big three with 1:28 left and UW-Parkside enjoyed a slim 32-31 buffer at the halftime break.

William Jewell tied the game twice early in the second half before Parkside utilized an 8-2 run to secure a 46-40 lead with 14:48 remaining. The Rangers' lead was still six with 12:25 left but the Cardinals utilized a 14-4 run to take their first lead of the game, owning a 61-57 edge with 6:46 left. Five in a row from the Green and White restored the lead before WJC's Larry Fitzgerald hit a shot to give the visitors what proved to be their final lead of the night at 63-62.

A three-point play from
Kyle Flanagan put the Rangers back up two with 4:29 left. Jewell tied the game with 4:06 left but
Goran Zagorac swung the lead back to Parkside with a layup.
Jake Verhagen blocked a shot the next defensive series while
Andy Mazurczak turned it into points, extending the Ranger buffer to four points. Three consecutive free throws closed the gap to just two with 11 seconds left before Mazurczak iced the game with a pair of makes from the charity stripe with nine ticks left as UW-Parkside notched its 30th consecutive GLVC home victory.

Mazurczak led the Rangers with 20 points while
Kendale McCullum added 14 along with six assists. Flanagan came off the bench and added 11 points and six boards while Zagorac finished with 10 points.
Chavares Flanigan added nine points and secured a team-best seven rebounds.

Jordan Tanner led William Jewell, scoring 20 points with eight rebounds while Fitzgerald and Darius Tomlin added 17 and 11 points, respectively.

UW-Parkside won the turnover battle, forcing 17 WJC turnovers and owning a 17-4 edge in points off turnovers. The Rangers enjoyed a 42-32 edge in points in the paint but was outrebounded by a 40-32 margin.

Parkside caps off its homestand on Saturday, welcoming Rockhurst University to DeSimone Gymnasium with tipoff slated for 3 p.m.
