INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 3, 2015)-- Andy Mazurczak and Kendale McCullum combined for 42 points but it was not enough as the three-time defending Great lakes Valley Conference East Division Champion University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball squad suffered a 90-79 setback to host University of Indianapolis in the conference opener inside Nicoson Hall.

It was a back and forth opening 20 minutes of play featuring six lead changes and five ties. The host Greyhounds (5-2, 1-0 GLVC) made the first notable surge of the contest, utilizing a 10-0 spurt to seize a 19-9 edge with 12:07 left in the half. The Rangers (4-2, 0-1 GLVC) quickly answered with a spurt of their own, collecting nine straight, including a Jake Verhagen trey to pull within one at 19-18 with 10:00 left. UW-Parkside reestablished a lead at 25-24 off an Alexander Brown three but back-to-back threes from UIndy's Lucas Barker and another layup put the hosts back on top by seven. UIndy led the rest of the half, leading by as many as 13-points and owning a 45-34 advantage at the intermission.

Trailing by 11, the Rangers mounted a 14-4 spurt, pulling with a point at 61-60 with 9:54 left in the game on a Jalen Currie tip-in layup. The host Greyhounds answered with a demoralizing 11-0 run, seizing a 12-point lead and owned at least a seven point buffer the rest of the way.

Mazurczak led the Rangers with 22 points, including 17 in the second half while McCullum added 20 points, five boards, and four assists. Jake Verhagen chipped in eight off the bench while Jalen Currie tallied seven.

Jordan Lloyd led all scorers with 28 points while Lucas Barker added 22. Ernest Maize had 17 points and 11 rebounds off the bench while Joe Retic added 11 points.

The Rangers return to action on Saturday, facing GLVC East rival Saint Joseph's College at 3 p.m.
