NORTH CANTON, Ohio (Nov. 23, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball squad got the last laugh on Monday night, spoiling Walsh University's home opener after suffering a similar fate a season ago as the Rangers escaped Alumni Arena with an 80-76 victory.

The host Cavaliers (0-2) surged out to an early 8-0 but the Rangers (4-0) calmly answered with the next 16 points over a four minute stretch, seizing a 16-8 edge off a Jake Verhagen layup with 12:37 remaining in the first half. Walsh strung together another run to secure a 19-18 lead but the lead proved fleeting with UW-Parkside counter punching and building a six-point buffer. The Cavaliers briefly regained the lead with 2:09 left but the Rangers tallied a pair of tip-in scores, including one from Kyle Flanagan with 21 seconds left as the visitors enjoyed a 35-32 lead at the halftime intermission.

Parkside opened up a six-point lead in the second half but Walsh scored 16 of the next 22 points, securing a 60-56 advantage with 9:53 left off an and one from Chall Montgomery.

Sparked by a Jalen Currie three, the Rangers mounted an 11-1 run, reclaiming the lead and never looking back en route to the four-point win. Walsh closed the gap to just a single possession with 11 ticks left but a pair of free throws from Verhagen iced the contest.

The win was revenge for the Rangers who fell 80-79 to Walsh last season on Nov. 29 in the home opener at DeSimone Gymnasium.

Five Rangers ended the night in double figures with Kendale McCullum leading the way with a career-high 19 points. Alexander Brown tallied 17 points and four assists, shooting seven-for-10 from the floor while reigning Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week Andy Mazurczak added 14. Goran Zagorac finished one board shy of a double-double, netting 10 points and nine boards while Jalen Currie added 10.

Trey Fletcher paced the host Cavaliers with 26 points while Jesse Hardin Jr. added 24 points and 10 rebounds, remaining on the court all 40 minutes.

UW-Parkside shot 54.1 percent from the floor (33-for-61), canning 60 percent (18-for-30) of its chances in the second half while Walsh shot at a 43.5 percent (27-for-62) clip. Neither squad was able to generate significant production off the bench, with the Ranger reserves accounting for 10 points while the Walsh non-starters mustered just one point all night.

The Rangers return home on Saturday afternoon, hosting Ferris State University at 3 p.m.
