SOMERS, Wis. (Jan. 19, 2013)-- The short-staffed University of Wisconsin-Parkside wresting team opened Saturday with a 19-13 victory over McKendree University before stumbling to a pair of ranked opponents at the Ranger Duals inside DeSimone Gymnasium. The fifth-ranked Rangers, fielding wrestlers in just nine weight classes, fell 24-18 to No. 18 University of Indianapolis and 27-10 to No. 8 University of Findlay.
The Rangers (4-4) began the afternoon down 4-0 against McKendree, before rattling off 19 of the next 28 points to secure the six point victory.

184-pounder
Matt Gille earned a major decision victory, disposing of McK's Andrew Krawulski, 13-2. Davion Willis suffered a rare loss at 197 pounds, falling 5-2 to Julian Smith before
James Malechek cemented the dual victory with a 5-0 win at 285 pounds over Ross Janney.
Against UIndy, the Greyhounds benefited from a Ranger forfeit at 125 pounds and an injury win at 141, claiming six of the opening seven weight classes to stake a 24-6 advantage. Jacob Papke accounted for the lone UWP victory during that stretch, recording a pin over Paul Beck with nine seconds left in the third period.
The tide turned the final three matches of the dual with Gille, Willis and Malechek all winning their respective weight classes. Gille began with a first period pin over George Lopez at 184 pounds while Davion Willis edged Taylor Scott 3-0 at 197. Malecheck closed the dual at 285 pounds, holding on for a 2-1 decision.
Against Findlay, the Oilers secured the first five weight classes before Fishback posted a 14-0 major decision victory over Alex Betts at 165 pounds. Gille won by forfeit at 184 pounds, closing the day undefeated.
The dual with Findlay was a rematch of last weekend's quarterfinal showdown at the Cliff Keen National Duals where UWP emerged with a 26-13 victory en route to a fourth-place finish.
The Rangers are back in action on Tuesday, traveling to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for a 7 p.m. dual against the Division III Pointers.
