"This season went according to plan," said UW-Parkside head coach
Luke Reigel on the Coin's Sports Bar post-game show on WRJN radio Sunday afternoon. "The next six months are about putting in the work and getting better, and this group wants to."
The Rangers saw the 2009-10 season come to an end after a 93-66 loss at Kentucky Wesleyan. The host Panthers are ranked fourth in the country and will advance to the Great Lakes Valley Conference semi-finals against Northern Kentucky in Springfield, Illinois (the Rangers beat NKU at NKU this season).
The GLVC quarterfinal contest was tight early, with the Panthers holding a slim 12-11 lead. But, the nation's fourth ranked team tightened their defense and did not allow the Rangers a field goal in the final 7:52 of the first half.
The Panthers pulled away to a 44-23 lead at intermission.
KWC is 28-3 overall and will likely host the Midwest Region tournament with a No. 1 seed.
Parkside ended with a 10-19 record in a season which saw a plethora of freshmen on the floor.
"We have the talent. The future is promising, " said Reigel.
The last time Reigel rebuilt the Ranger program with freshmen, the team earned an NCAA bid.
