Parkside Men's Basketball Names Rion Rayfield as Assistant Coach

6/12/2025 1:40:00 PM

KENOSHA, Wis. – Parkside Men's Basketball and Head Coach Luke Reigel are proud to announce the hiring of Rion Rayfield as the program's new Assistant Coach ahead of the 2025-26 season. Rayfield brings more than a decade of coaching experience and a proven record of success at all three NCAA levels.

"Rion is a tremendous addition to our program," said Reigel. "With Coach Miller leaving, I was hoping to add another experienced, highly successful assistant to this group of players—and that's exactly what we've done."

Rayfield joins Parkside after eight seasons with UW-Platteville, where he played an instrumental role in establishing one of the premier Division III programs in the country. While with the Pioneers, Rayfield helped guide the team to six NCAA Tournament appearances, five WIAC regular season championships, and four WIAC Tournament titles. Under his leadership, UW-Platteville produced one National Player of the Year, three All-Americans, 13 First Team All-WIAC selections, and three WIAC Players of the Year.

"Rion has been a part of a tremendous program at UW-Platteville the past eight years, so he understands what winning at a high level looks like," Reigel added.

Rayfield's coaching experience also includes stints at Otero Junior College as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, UW-Green Bay as Director of Basketball Operations—where he helped lead the Phoenix to a Horizon League Tournament title and NCAA Division I Tournament berth in 2016—and Black Hills State University, a Division II program in South Dakota.

As a player, Rayfield starred at Florida Southern College, where he compiled 1,870 career points and 544 assists, leading the Mocs to four straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearances and three Sunshine State Conference championships. A decorated point guard, Rayfield earned NCAA Division II Bulletin Honorable Mention All-American honors and still holds Florida Southern program records for career games played (135) and three-pointers made (364).

"Rion also had a successful career as a point guard at the D2 level. He played in multiple NCAA Division II tournaments, so not only does he know what it takes to be great at our level, but he can help our players reach new heights," said Reigel. "All of our players will benefit from his experience, tenacity, and knowledge of the game."

Rayfield will also step in as Parkside's recruiting coordinator, leveraging his deep ties across Wisconsin and the Chicagoland area—regions that have historically fueled Parkside's roster success.

"Finally, Rion has spent most of his coaching career recruiting the main areas we've had success with here at Parkside," said Reigel. "So, he will be able to step right in and take over as our recruiting coordinator and is very familiar with both Wisconsin and the Chicagoland area."

"Overall, I couldn't be more excited about adding Rion to our program."
