Seven Rangers Earn Top-Five Finishes at Don Parker Open

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Parkside Wrestling had an impressive performance at the Don Parker Open, earning seven top-five finishes. Leading the way, Cody Welker captured the championship in the 157-pound bracket.

At 133 pounds, Matthew Chi earned a third-place finish. Chi opened the day with a 17–2 technical fall at 3:43 over Anthony Garitano of Iowa Lakes Community College. In the quarterfinals, Matthew recorded his second technical fall of the day, defeating Ryan Goddard of Wisconsin–Eau Claire by a 19–4 score at 4:13. In the semifinals, Chi lost by fall, but he bounced back to secure third place with a 10–9 decision victory over Calvin Singewald of Wisconsin–Eau Claire.

Troy Dolphin earned a fifth-place finish for the Rangers in the 141-pound bracket. Dolphin won his opening bout by fall at 0:49 over Tyler Isbell of Iowa Lakes Community College. In his next bout, Troy was victorious with a 14–6 major decision. In the quarterfinals, Dolphin dropped a tight 3–2 decision. He then won his next two bouts by fall at 1:33 and 3:00. Troy secured fifth place following a medical forfeit.

At 157 pounds, Cody Welker claimed the tournament title after a dominant performance. After receiving a first-round bye, Welker earned a 15–0 technical fall at 2:36 in the second round. In the quarterfinals, Cody advanced with a 10–2 medical forfeit. Welker moved on to the finals after a 9–4 decision win and secured the 157-pound title following a forfeit by his opponent, Zach Ballante of South Dakota State.

Liam Fox recorded a fifth-place finish in the 165-pound bracket. Fox opened his day with a bye, then earned an 8–1 decision win in the second round. He lost by decision in the quarterfinals but bounced back with a 22–9 major decision and a fall at 2:32. He then defeated Gage Decker with a 17–1 technical fall to secure his fifth-place finish.

Lowell Arnold picked up another third-place finish for the Rangers in the 174-pound bracket. After receiving a first-round bye, Arnold earned an 11–0 major decision, followed by a fall at 1:51 in the quarterfinals. He lost a 4–0 decision in the semifinal bout but bounced back with a fall at 1:04 over Apollo Ashby of Augsburg to claim third place.

In the 184-pound bracket, competing unattached, Sullivan Ramos earned a second-place finish. Ramos opened the day with a fall at 0:56, followed by another fall at 1:38. In the semifinal bout, he won with a 6–4 decision. Ramos ultimately fell to Jarett Wadsen of South Dakota State but closed the tournament strong with a second-place finish.

Thomas Reilly earned a fifth-place finish in the 197-pound bracket. After losing in the opening round, Reilly bounced back with a 17–1 technical fall win. In his next bout, he advanced following a medical forfeit, then won by fall at 1:56. In the fifth-place bout, Reilly claimed victory over Nathan Kaltt of St. Cloud State by fall at 4:05.

Parkside is back in action on Saturday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. against St. Cloud State inside De Simone Arena.
