Rangers Claim Super Region V Title, Qualify Seven for Nationals

MARSHALL, Minn. — The Parkside Rangers delivered a historic performance at Super Region V, crowning one individual champion and qualifying seven wrestlers for the NCAA Division II National Championships. Behind a dominant showing throughout the lineup, the Rangers captured the Super Region V team title for the first time since 2016.

At 125 pounds, No.4 Shane Corrigan put together an impressive tournament run, opening with an 11-0 major decision before dominating the quarterfinals with a 17-0 technical fall in just 3:14. After dropping a tight 6-3 semifinal decision, he bounced back in commanding fashion with a 15-0 tech fall in the consolation semifinals. He sealed a third-place finish with a 15-7 major decision over Jacob Fitzpatrick of Minnesota State, finishing the weekend strong with four bonus-point victories, while claiming a spot in the NCAA National Championships.

Matthew Chi competed at 133 pounds and opened his tournament with a dominant 20-5 technical fall in the quarterfinals. After a semifinal loss to No. 13 Dominick Ducato, he responded with a thrilling 13-11 decision in the consolation semifinals. Chi ultimately finished fourth after facing No. 5 Jacob Strausbaugh of UMary in the third-place bout.

Troy Dolphin battled his way through a loaded bracket, winning his opening-round by fall at 1:37 at 141 pounds. After falling to No. 6 Sean Solis in the quarterfinals, he responded with three straight wins in the consolation bracket, including falls in 2:16 and 1:58 — the latter over No. 8 Luke Koenen of Augustana. He ultimately placed fourth after dropping a 7-0 decision to Colton Hush of Minnesota State in the third-place match.

At 149 pounds, No.2 Jalen Spuhler earned a 17-4 major decision in the quarterfinals before suffering a narrow 12-11 semifinal loss to No. 10 Rudy Lopez of Northern. In the consolation semifinals, Spuhler won by fall at 3:54. Jalen then defeated No. 4 Nolan Ambrose of Augustana by a 6-1 decision to claim third place and secured a spot in the NCAA National Championships. 

No. 4 Easton Worachek opened his tournament with a fall in 2:27 in the quarterfinals and followed it up with a strong 8-2 decision in the semifinals. With that semifinal victory, he officially punched his ticket to the NCAA National Championships. In the championship bout, Worachek battled No. 2 Joel Jesuroga in a tightly contested match that ended in a 4-1 sudden victory decision, earning a runner-up finish after an impressive performance.

No. 11 Brody Hemauer delivered a championship performance at 165 pounds. He edged his quarterfinal opponent in a 7-6 decision, before winning a 4-1 sudden victory thriller in the semifinals. In the title match, Brody sealed the championship with a fall at 4:47 over Lane Ewing of UMary, capturing the 165-pound crown and a berth to the NCAA National Championships.

At 174 pounds, No.2 Dajun Johnson started fast with a 17-2 technical fall in 2:35 and followed it up with a 12-3 major decision in the quarterfinals. A hard-fought semifinal ended in an overtime fall, and he later fell in the consolation semifinals as well. Dajun closed his tournament with a gritty 3-2 decision in the fifth-place bout over Gavin Turk of Minot State. 

In the 184 pound bracket, Sullivan Ramos opened the tournament with a 15-4 major decision and added a quarterfinal fall at 6:49 to reach the semifinals. After a narrow 2-0 decision loss to No. 2 Cole Glazier, he responded with back-to-back wins in the consolation bracket, including an 8-2 decision over No. 13 Brady West Stall of Northern State. Sullivan closed out his tournament with a fall at 5:54 over Evan Farley of Minnesota State to secure third place and a berth to the NCAA National Championships.

At 197 pounds, Jordan Blanchard made a statement early, winning by fall over his first-round opponent in 1:55 before earning a 13-3 major decision in the quarterfinals. He ran into top-ranked Max Ramberg of Augustana in the semifinals but rebounded with a fall in 2:51 in the consolation semifinals. Jordan capped his tournament with an 11-1 major decision over Matthew Marcus of Upper Iowa to secure third place and a spot in the NCAA National Championships.

Cooper Caraway put together an impressive run at 285 pounds. He opened with back-to-back decisions, 5-1 and 8-1, to reach the semifinals. After falling to No. 5 Luke Tweeton of UMary, Cooper answered with an 11-0 major decision in the consolation semifinals. He secured third place with a strong 4-0 decision over Max Balow of Augustana, to earn a berth to the NCAA National Championships.

The Rangers' seven national qualifiers will now prepare for the trip to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The NCAA Division II National Championships are scheduled for March 13-14.
