UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Parkside women produced a strong opening day highlighted by scoring performances, NCAA-level marks, and several athletes advancing to Saturday finals. The Rangers sit in a tie for third with 24 points after the first day of events.
Abbi Steiner delivered the Rangers' top finish on the track, placing second in the 5,000 meters (16:58.07) to earn eight team points.
Anna Snorek qualified for two finals, running a personal-best 25.18 in the 200-meter prelims and a season and school record best 57.06 in the 400 meters, where she advanced third overall.
In the 60 meters,
Mayda Conrad advanced to the final with a personal-best 7.84, while
Lauren Wiitanen posted a personal-best 8.24 in the prelims and later ran 27.47 in the 200 meters.
The long jump group generated significant team points, led by
Essence Burrows' runner-up finish (5.89m), an NCAA Division II No. 32 mark this season.
Rachel Blaskowski added a fifth-place finish (5.44m) to score four points.
In the weight throw,
Brooke Mader placed eighth (15.44m) to score for the Rangers.
The women's distance medley relay team of
Addison Lacy,
Savannah Torrence,
Kylie Kwiatkowski, and
Tempi Zondag finished seventh in 12:58.59 to add two points.
Lainey Fredrick represented Parkside in the pentathlon, recording several personal bests, including marks in the 60-meter hurdles (9.86), shot put (8.29m), and long jump (4.97m), along with a season-best 2:35.77 in the 800 meters. She finished eighth to earn a point for the Rangers.
