Kenosha, Wis. – Parkside began the day by earning its sixth straight victory behind a solid start from
Sam Mommer, who led the Rangers to a 7-3 win. However, Purdue Northwest bounced back to snap the streak, downing Parkside 11-3. The series now favors Parkside 2-1 heading into the finale tomorrow in Hammond.
GAME ONE
The Rangers wasted little time jumping on the Pride, using timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to seize control early.
After a quiet first, Parkside's offense erupted in the second inning. Senior Owen Brock sparked the rally with a leadoff single, and Jackson Lindquist followed with a double to left. Josh Wicker drove in the game's first run with a single through the right side, and from there, the wheels kept turning. Jake Petasek delivered the big blow—a two-run single that pushed the lead to 4-0. A balk and an RBI single by Brock capped off the inning, giving Parkside a commanding 6-0 cushion.
Sam Mommer was in control on the mound, striking out seven over five innings of work. The right-hander limited Purdue Northwest to just four hits while navigating a fifth-inning threat with poise. Although the Pride plated three runs in the frame, Mommer worked out of further damage, and reliever Nathan Ciemny shut the door with two clean innings to earn the save.
Parkside added insurance in the fourth when Dylan Sayles drove home Peter Fusek—who reached base three times and swiped a bag—pushing the lead to 7-0 before Purdue Northwest's brief rally.
Offensively, Brock led the way with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, while Petasek and Sayles each contributed two RBIs. Wicker and Lindquist also added key hits as the Rangers tallied eight total knocks. The Rangers earned their 22nd victory of the season, already exceeding last year's win total.
GAME TWO
Parkside dropped the second game of the day, 11-3. The Pride used early offense and a six-run stretch in the middle innings to pull away, while Jake Nightingale went the distance on the mound.
The Rangers responded early after the Pride struck for two runs in the top of the first. After Peter Fusek led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch, Dylan Sayles launched a two-run homer to right, evening the score at 2-2.
Purdue Northwest wasted no time reclaiming the lead in the second. With two runners on and two outs, Brayden Barrett lifted a three-run homer to left field to give the visitors a 5-2 advantage.
Parkside had limited chances against Nightingale, who scattered seven hits, struck out eight, and walked two in a complete-game victory. The Rangers didn't score again until the eighth, when John Wubben came off the bench and delivered an RBI single to score Austin Drayna.
Offensively, Josh Wicker and Koto Sato each recorded doubles for Parkside, while Sayles' two-run blast was the lone extra-base hit to produce runs. Parkside now stands at 22-8 overall and 7-4 in conference play.
