Rangers return home for first GLIAC action at Wood Road Field

10/9/2025 9:00:00 AM

KENOSHA, Wis. – After two straight road wins, the Parkside men's soccer team finally returns home to Wood Road Field for a key pair of GLIAC matchups this weekend. The Rangers host Davenport on Friday, October 10 at noon, before turning around to face first-place Saginaw Valley State on Sunday, October 12 at 1:30 p.m., the second match of a women's and men's doubleheader.

Parkside enters the weekend on a two-match winning streak and has claimed three of its last four contests, sitting in third place in the GLIAC standings at 3-1 in conference play. The Rangers are coming off a gritty 1-0 victory on the road at St. Cloud State, where sophomore Keven Sosa scored his first collegiate goal in the 75th minute. Senior forward Eduardo Aguilera-Guillen continues to pace the attack with 12 points on five goals and two assists, ranking second in the GLIAC in both goals and total points. In net, redshirt senior goalkeeper Daniyal Rana has anchored the back line with back-to-back shutouts and leads the league in both total saves and saves per game.

SCOUTING DAVENPORT:

Davenport enters the weekend at 0-3-1 in GLIAC play and sits at the bottom of the standings, still searching for its first conference win. The Panthers were picked right behind Parkside in the preseason coaches' poll, but a series of close results has kept them on the outside looking in of the GLIAC tournament picture. They feature a young but balanced group highlighted by returning GLIAC Freshman of the Year Easton Lopez, who continues to drive the attack through the midfield. Sophomore goalkeeper Beau Hudd has been a bright spot between the posts, ranking among the league's top three in goals-against average while posting a 1.35 mark and more than 20 saves. Charlie Davis has been one of Davenport's main creators with a goal and two assists, while newcomer Ryan Sheffer has added a pair of goals since joining the lineup.

Parkside and Davenport have developed one of the more even rivalries in the league over the past few seasons. The Rangers are 8-7-2 all-time against the Panthers but just 2-4-2 when playing at home. Over the last ten meetings, Parkside holds a 5-4-1 edge, with many of those matches decided by a single goal or ending in a draw. The teams last met in Kenosha last October, playing to a 2-2 draw, before Davenport claimed a 2-0 result later in the year in Grand Rapids. Friday's match up could prove to be pivotal for both sides as the midpoint of the GLIAC schedule approaches.

SCOUTING NO. 17 SAGINAW VALLEY STATE:

Sunday's matchup brings the league's hottest team to Kenosha, as Saginaw Valley State stands as the only perfect team in GLIAC play at 4-0 and sits atop the conference table. The Cardinals were the preseason favorites after returning a strong core of All-GLIAC players, and they have lived up to those expectations so far. Senior forward Matty Telfer has been in top form with five goals and an assist, tied for second in the league in scoring, while Lui Ingavi, Evan Baker, and Eoin Farrell have all chipped in with multiple goals to give SVSU one of the deepest attacking groups in the region. Veteran goalkeeper Nick Kay continues to anchor a defense that leads the conference in goals-against average, boasting four shutouts and allowing less than a goal per match.

Parkside is 7-5-5 all-time against Saginaw Valley State and holds a 4-3-4 record when playing the Cardinals at home. The two sides split last season, as Parkside earned a 3-0 win at Wood Road Field before Saginaw Valley responded with a victory later in the year in University Center. Both programs have consistently been near the top of the conference standings in recent seasons, and Sunday's meeting is shaping up to be another competitive matchup between two of the GLIAC's top contenders.
