KENOSHA, Wis. — Parkside men's soccer salvaged a 2-2 draw in its first home match of the season Friday, as Eduardo Aguilera-Guillen buried a penalty with just 49 seconds left to cap a relentless second half against Davenport at Wood Road Field.
Parkside jumped ahead early at 6:55 when the freshman connection struck again. Angel Luevano slipped a through ball between three defenders, and Yeison Santos calmly finished over a diving Beau Hudd for a 1-0 lead — his third goal of the season.
Davenport quickly leveled at 9:11 as Maxamillian Postlewait's header off a corner found Ryan Sheffer, who tapped it in from close range for his third straight match with a goal. The Panthers grabbed their first lead in the 20th minute when Alexis Rivera-Velasquez delivered a curling cross from the right side that Postlewait finished at the back post to make it 2-1.
From there, Parkside dominated the second half, outshooting Davenport 18-3 and 27-12 overall, while posting an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Rangers nearly equalized multiple times before the dramatic finish, with Aguilera-Guillen striking the post in the 80th minute and Luevano forcing a diving save in the 89th. Just seconds later, Austin Hall was called for a handball in the box, setting up Aguilera-Guillen to convert from the spot for his sixth goal of the season — tying him for the GLIAC lead. The match would end in a 2-2 draw despite a last-ditch effort from the Panthers.
Hudd finished with nine saves for Davenport, while Parkside goalkeeper Daniyal Rana made three. Corner kicks were even at 5-5, and the Rangers generated four in the final 20 minutes as they pressed for the equalizer.
With the result, Parkside moves into a tie with Roosevelt for second place in the GLIAC standings at 3-1-1 (3-3-2 overall), while Davenport remains winless in conference play at 0-3-2.
The Rangers continue their homestand Sunday at 1:30 p.m. against No. 17 Saginaw Valley State in a top-of-the-table battle at Wood Road Field, part of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader.
