KENOSHA, Wis. -- The No. 3 ranked Parkside wrestling team returned to action on Saturday evening for a top ten showdown against the No. 8 ranked Augustana University Vikings. The Rangers battled all night, but ultimately came up short by a final score of 22-15.
"We didn't have the fight and heart today that I know this team is capable of," said Head Coach
Nick Becker. "We had some really great performances and then some flat out ugly performances. Credit though to Augustana they wrestled well and wanted to win more than us today. This could be the best thing to happen to us. We will need to respond and not make excuses for why we didn't wrestle our best. Looking forward to next week at Midwest Classic."
Parkside fell behind early when No. 1 ranked Jaxson Rohman won by fall over No. 4 Ranked

No. 8 ranked
Matthew Chi turned things around, defeating Owen Hansen in the 133lb bout. Hansen got the opening takedown of the match, but Chi was able to escape and get a takedown of his own to take a 4-3 lead after the first. Chi kept the momentum in the second, scoring an escape point to open the period before taking Hansen down twice, extending his lead to 11-4 after two. Chi didn't stop in the third, scoring 12 points in the period, closing out the 23-8 tech fall victory with 31 seconds to go in the match.
No. 3 ranked
Cayden Henschel gave the Rangers the lead with a victory in the 141lb bout. Henschel scored two first period takedowns of Connor Whiteley to take a 6-1 lead. Henschel had the only takedown of the second period and led 9-2 after two. He was able to keep his lead in the third with a takedown, securing a 15-6 win by major decision.
Augustana grabbed momentum back, with wins by decision at 149 and 157lbs. The Vikings led 12-9 after five bouts.
No. 15 ranked
Dajun Johnson evened the score with a win in the 165lb bout. Johnson got taken down in the first period and found himself trailing 3-1 going to the third period. He was able to take down Payton Handevidt twice in the third period to secure the 7-6 win by decision.
The Vikings seized control for good, winning bouts at 174, 184 and 197lbs.
Lloyd Reynolds closed the day out for Parkside with a win in the 285lb bout. After a scoreless first period, Max Balow scored the only point of the second period with an escape. Reynolds scored an escape of his own to open the third and was able to takedown Balow to secure the 4-1 win by decision.
Parkside ultimately fell by a final score of 22-15.
The Rangers will return to action next weekend at the highly competitive Midwest Classic. The two day event will begin on December 14
