Henschel, Durocher and Worachek Win Titles, Rangers Have Strong Showing At The Findlay Open

Findlay, OHIO — The Parkside wrestling team hit the road on Saturday, competing at the Findlay Open. Parkside had seven wrestlers record top-three finishes, with Ben Durocher, Cayden Henschel, and Reece Worachek bringing home championships.
 
No. 5 ranked Cayden Henschel won the championship in the 141lb weight class. He opened the day winning by a 10-3 decision. Cayden then picked up a win by fall to move to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Cayden defeated Brayden Lowery by an 8-1 decision. Henschel had his closest match in the semifinals, defeating No. 1 ranked Ronan Schuelke by a 5-3 decision. He then put his foot on the gas in the championship match, defeating Brogan Fielding by an 18-1 tech fall.
 
No. 5 ranked Ben Durocher won the championship in the 157lb weight class. Durocher came out strong Saturday, winning his first match by tech fall then the next two by major decision. In the semifinals, Durocher defeated Lance Overmeyer by a 7-1 decision. In the championship, Ben defeated Cale Hoskinson by a close 4-2 decision.
 
No. 3 ranked Reece Worachek won the championship in the 184lb weight class. Worachek had a tough path to the championship. He won his opening bout of the day by a 3-2 tiebreak win over Kyle Homet. After winning by tech fall in the second round Reece had another close battle, defeating Darion Johnson by a 4-1 sudden victory. Worachek then secured a spot in the championship by defeating Zeke Waltz by an ultimate tiebreak win. Reece then clinched the championship, defeating Braden Welch by an 8-1 decision.
 
No. 4 ranked Shane Corrigan finished second in the 125lb class. He got his day started quickly winning by tech falls in his first two matches. Shane beat Colton Drousias in the quarterfinals by a 9-5 decision. In the semifinals Corrigan picked up his third tech fall of the day, defeating Allen Calderon 16-0. Corrigan then came up just short in the championship match against Grey Burnett.
 
No. 4 ranked Jalen Spuhler finished second in the 149lb weight class. Spuhler had to battle in his opening bout of the day, winning by a 4-1 sudden victory over No. 7 ranked Joey Semerad. Spuhler then won by fall and major decision to move to the semifinals. In the semifinals Jalen won his second bout by sudden victory, taking down Nik Yancey in overtime to secure a spot in the championship. Jalen came up just short in the championship, losing by a 9-4 decision to Dylan Layton.
 
Wrestling unattached, Brady Schuh finished second in the 174lb weight class. Schuh started the day fast, winning by major decision and tech fall in his first two matches. In the quarterfinals Schuh defeated Chase Stein by a 15-5 major decision. Schuh advanced to the championship by defeating No. 5 ranked Matt Ortiz by 4-2 decision. Brady came up short in the championship, falling to Shad Slone.
 
Dajun Johnson finished third in the 165lb weight class. Johnson opened the day by winning his first two matches by tech fall. He then advanced to the semifinals by pining Logan Smalley. After falling in the semifinals Johnson recovered, defeating Logan Sanom to secure the third-place finish.
 
Wrestling unattached, Kaden Hooker finished fourth overall. He advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-3 win by decision. He then advanced to the semifinals with an 18-1 tech fall win. Hooker came up short in the semifinals and the third-place match, securing a fourth-place finish.
