WHITEWATER,
Wis. – The No. 9 ranked Parkside wrestling team opened the 2023-24 season on Wednesday night, taking on the Whitewater Warhawks in the battle for the Sake Bottle. The Rangers handled business, downing Whitewater by a final score of 28-11.
"I thought it was a good performance tonight for our guys overall," remarked Head Coach
Nick Becker following the win. "It was great to watch these guys wrestle against someone else and analyze where we can improve. We had some dominating performances and a couple opportunities that were left on the table. I am proud of the effort these guys have displayed early on and looking forward to the rest of our guys competing on Saturday. Hats off to Coach Zwaschka and his team for coming to battle."
No. 4 ranked
Shane Corrigan got the night started for the Rangers, winning by 19-3 tech fall. After the Warhawks got a tech fall of their own to tie the match at five, No. 8 ranked
Cayden Henschel was able to win a 7-2 decision to give the Rangers the lead back.
No. 2 ranked
Jalen Spuhler kept things going at 149lbs, winning by a 19-3 tech fall thanks to a riding time bonus point. No. 11 ranked
Ben Durocher got his season started on the right foot, winning by an 8-3 decision.
After Whitewater cut the Parkside lead to 16-8 with a decision at 165lbs, Parkside was able to bounce back with a win at 174 lbs.
Crosby Schlosser was able to get a takedown with ten seconds to go in the third period to win 8-6.
No. 5 ranked
Reece Worachek took care of business in his opener, winning by a 13-4 major decision. Whitewater took the 197lbs bout, but
Lloyd Reynolds was able to close out the night in style, winning by 20-5 tech fall.
