INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Parkside Wrestling team competed in the first day of the Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Ind. In a 43-team field, the Rangers competed through the quarterfinal rounds on Saturday and will conclude the tournament on Sunday morning with seven Rangers still battling for podium spots. The Rangers currently sit in 14^th place out of the 43 teams in the tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The young starting ten for the Rangers took their talents down to Indianapolis to face some of the best competition at the NCAA Division II level. But on day one, it was veteran redshirt senior and No. 1 ranked Shane Gantz who continued his dominance and advanced to the semifinal match at the 165-pound weight class. Gantz earned two pins on Saturday, his first two of the season. 
At 125-pounds, freshman Shane Corrigan went 3-1 on Saturday, with his lone loss coming in the second round. Corrigan has earned an impressive 17-4 record so far on the season. Sophomore Joey Roti competed at 133-pounds and went 0-2 with his second loss coming to ranked No. 7 ranked  Eric Bartos. In the 141-pound class, redshirt sophomore Cayden Henschel's perfect season came to an end following a second-round loss to No. 8 ranked Tate Murty. Henschel won the rest of his matches on Saturday to go 3-1 on the day. He is now 14-1 on the season. 
Redshirt sophomore Jalen Spuhler started his tournament strong with a tech fall followed by a 5-3 decision but ultimately lost by a 5-2 decision in the quarterfinal matchup. No. 10 ranked redshirt sophomore Ben Durocher went 2-1 on Saturday with his lone loss coming to No. 2 ranked Nate Smith in the quarterfinal match. Sophomore Crosby Schlosser competed at 174-pounds where he went 2-2 on Saturday. Schlosser's final loss came in a close 10-9 decision. 
At 184-pounds, No. 4 ranked Reece Worachek went 3-1 with one major decision in the preliminary rounds. In the quarterfinal, Worachek came up just short, falling by a 3-1 sudden victory. Worachek moves to 15-2 on the season. Freshman Joe Swanson competed at 197-pounds and went 0-2 on Saturday. At 285-pounds, redshirt sophomore and No. 12 ranked Lloyd Reynolds went 3-1 on Saturday as his perfect season came to an end due to a round two loss. Reynolds was able to win the final match of the day by a 5-1 decision and keep the hopes alive for the team. Reynolds moves to 17-1 on the season.

 "It was an up and down day but ended with a big win by Lloyd Reynolds. Good thing is we still have 7 guys alive heading into tomorrow. First round in the morning is a huge round for the team race. If the six on the backside win, they all place. We will need to be ready from the get-go and come ready to fight."
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Midwest Classic will conclude on Sunday in Indianapolis, Ind. with the final two rounds. Following the Midwest Classic, the Rangers will take a few weeks off for the holidays before traveling to St. Cloud, Minnesota on January 12^th to take on #1 ranked St. Cloud State at 7 p.m. in a dual.
