Rangers Take Back the Sake Bottle in Win Over Whitewater

KENOSHA, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin - Parkside Wrestling team took home the Sake Bottle trophy in dominant fashion on Thursday night, as the Rangers defeated the Warhawks 24-9 in De Simone Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The dual began in the 149-pound weight class where sophomore Jalen Spuhler fell to Jake Burford of Whitewater by a 6-2 decision. Burford is currently ranked number eight in the country at the Division III level. At 157 sophomore Ben Durocher brought the Rangers back to tie the match at three after beating Hunter Rudzinski by decision, 8-3. 

Durocher made his season debut at 157 pounds and earned a hard-fought 8-3 decision over Hunter Rudzinski. At 165-pounds. Number one-ranked Shane Gantz remained undefeated on the young season, controlling the entire match to earn a 19-8 major decision, his second major decision of the season.

Sophomore Reece Worachek, ranked third in the nation, took on the number one ranked wrestler at 184 pounds on the division three level. Worachek remained within striking distance after the first period but ultimately lost in a 7-2 decision. 
In his Parkside debut, freshman Joe Swanson won in exciting fashion, earning a sudden victory by a score of 4-2. At 285 sophomore Lloyd Reynolds outlasted his opponent in a close 2-1 decision to give the Rangers a commanding 13-9 lead that the Warhawks would never recover from. 

At the 125 class, freshman Shane Corrigan proved to be too much for Tyler Klein of Whitewater winning  17-0 by tech fall at 4:36. Sophomore Joey Roti got off to an early lead in the 133 match and held on to win by decision, 10-5. Cayden Henschel closed out the night for the Rangers, winning a hard-fought match by decision 4-2 as the Rangers took back the Sake Bottle Trophy by a score of 24-9.

I thought some of our guys looked a little flat footed but overall we won 7 matches to 3 so can't be too critical. WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will travel to Findlay, Ohio to compete in the Findlay Open on Saturday Nov. 19th hosted by the University of Findlay.
