Rangers Open GLVC Tournament at Rockhurst

SOMERS, Wis. -- The Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team begins its quest to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament at Rockhurst on Sunday (Feb. 26) in an opening round game in the Deaconess Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at 1 p.m.

It marks the second consecutive season in which the Rangers have faced the Hawks in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament. Last year, Rockhurst topped the Rangers 73-62 in the GLVC Tournament after the Rangers had defeated Rockhurst in the regular season.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which finished the regular season with a 10-16 overall record and an 8-10 record in conference play, is seeking to turn the tables on the Hawks this season after Rockhurst won the regular season meeting 68-51 victory in Kansas City.

Rockhurst earned the No. 5 seed in the tournament after posting a 17-9 overall record and an 11-7 record in conference play, while Wisconsin-Parkside enters the tournament as the No. 12 seed.

In the regular season meeting, Rockhurst jumped out to a 31-18 lead at halftime and held off the Rangers in the second half. Mary Dineen led the Hawks with 16 points, while Marisa Lowe scored 15 points and Kaci German added 13 points. Shelby Cheston led the Rangers by posting a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Lauren Boerger had nine points and Olivia Montague scored eight points.

Senior Brittney Fair led Wisconsin-Parkside in scoring during the regular season as she is averaging 13.5 points entering tournament play. Boerger ranks second on the team averaging 7.7 points per game and Cheston is averaging 7.0 points.

Dineen leads the Hawks averaging 18.7 points per game and Lowe averages 12.4 points per contest.

Following the four opening round games on Sunday, the teams will be reseeded and will advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament on Friday (March 3).

The game can be seen live on the Great Lakes Valley Conference Sports Network.
