(Jan. 7, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team collected its fifth consecutive win on Thursday night, never trailing in an 89-69 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Missouri University S&T inside DeSimone Gymnasium. Five Rangers ended the night in double figures, including 27 from
Andy Mazurczak as the hosts outscored the Miners 31-15 over the final nine minutes.

Andy Mazurczak gave the host Rangers (9-2, 2-1 GLVC) an early 4-0 edge before consecutive buckets from the Miners (7-6, 3-1 GLVC) tied the contest at four with 18:21 left in the opening half. A three the old fashioned way from Flanigan followed by a Mazurczak three gave UW-Parkside a 10-4 edge just over three minutes into the ballgame.

Visiting S&T whittled the gap to just two points with 13:55 left in the opening half off a Quinn Poythress three-pointer but the Rangers rattled off the next six points to establish an eight-point advantage. UW-Parkside continued to pull away, scoring 14 of the final 23 points of the half, including a three in the waning seconds from
Espen Fjaerestad to establish a 49-36 lead at the intermission.

The Miners opened the second half on a 17-4 run, tying the game at 53 with 12:53 left before
Jake Verhagen answered with a three the following possession to restore the lead for the Green and White and sparking a 10-1 Ranger run to build a 63-54 lead with 10:28 remaining. UW-Parkside continued to pull away closing the gap by outscoring S&T 31-15 in the final nine minutes for the blowout win.

Mazurczak was red-hot from the field, hitting 10 of his 11 field goal attempts and finishing with 27 points, one-point shy of a career-high while also adding nine rebounds.
Kendale McCullum had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 assists while
Chavares Flanigan piled on a career-high 15 points. Verhagen dropped 13 points with
Alexander Brown coming off the bench and scoring 12 points.

B.J. McLaughlin was the only S&T player in double figures, scoring 21 points in 27 minutes of work.

UW-Parkside shot a blazing 60.7 percent (17-for-28) from the field in the first half and ended the game shooting 54.7 percent (29-for-53) from the field. The Rangers benefited from a 17-4 edge in second chance points while holding a commanding 35-23 rebounding advantage.

The victory was Parkside's fifth straight and the program's 25th consecutive GLVC home win.

The Rangers return to the hardwood on Saturday night, closing out their homestand against Drury University at 7 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
