(Jan. 16, 2016)-- A pair of big runs in each half carried the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team to its eight consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, dispensing of Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Maryville University 90-81 inside Moloney Arena.

The Rangers (12-2, 5-1 GLVC) tallied the opening bucket of the game before host Maryville (7-10, 1-6 GLVC) scored 13 of the next 15 to take a 13-4 lead with 16:05 left in the first stanza. UW-Parkside responded over the next four minutes, scoring 15 consecutive points, generating seven Saint turnovers and going seven-for-seven from the field during the scoring frenzy, building a 19-13 edge with 12:08 left.

Maryville reduced the gap to just a possession on two occasions but UW-Parkside continued to overpower the host Saints, building a 38-28 buffer heading into the locker room at halftime.

The hosts slowly chipped into the Ranger lead in the second half, pulling within two off a Karson King jumper with 12:12 remaining but UW-Parkside again rose to the occasion with
Jake Verhagen draining a three to touch off a 14-0 Ranger run to build a 16-point edge with 9:04 left. Parkside's lead ballooned to as many as 19-points on its way to the nine-point decision.

Verhagen was dialed in from distance, coming off the bench and hitting all five of his three-point attempts and closing the day with a season-high 19 points.
Andy Mazurczak tallied 17 points while
Kendale McCullum poured on 16 points and eight boards.
Alexander Brown was the fourth Ranger in double figures, netting 15 points.

Damyan Stoyanow led the Saints with 18 points with Marvin Grant-Clark adding 16. Forrester Sims dropped 14 as five Maryville players ended in double figures.

The Rangers return to the floor on Monday night, hosting arch-nemesis Lewis University at 7:30 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
