(Feb. 12, 2015)-- Jordan Mach shot his way into the record books, shattering the career record for three-pointers as the 12th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team manhandled Missouri University S&T 94-70 on Thursday night to remain tied atop the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division standings.
Mach entered Thursday's contest needing three threes to claim the program record and did just that, hitting all three in the second half, including the record breaking shot with 4:34 remaining off a feed from
Kendale McCullum for his 244th career bomb to surpass Andy Schmidtmann (1986-1990) for the top spot.
The visiting Miners (9-13, 2-12 GLVC) held an early 6-4 edge in the contest and hung within a possession of the Rangers (21-2, 13-1 GLVC) before the home side utilized a 12-2 run to turn a razor-thin one point lead into an 11-point cushion.
Jalen Currie sparked the scoring spurt with a dunk with 9:20 left in the opening half.
Andy Mazurczak added a layup the next possession before
Jimmy Gavin connected on back-to-back three-pointers. Parkside continued to pull away, staking a 44-27 lead at the halftime intermission.
The Rangers led by at least 15 points the entire second half, gliding to their fifth straight victory and their 11th consecutive home triumph.
Gavin hit four treys on the night, ending with 18 points while Currie had a career-high 14 points in just 18 minutes of action after hitting six of his nine shots from the floor.
Zygimantas Riauka netted 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks while Mazurczak and Mach each added nine points.
Desmond Buerge was Missouri S&T's leading scorer, claiming 18 points while Marcus Walden added 15. Michael Nesbitt tallied a double-double for the visitors, scoring 11 points while securing 10 rebounds.
UW-Parkside dominated the turnover battle, committing just five while S&T coughed the ball up 16 times, including 10 generated by the quick hands of the Ranger defense.
UW-Parkside limited S&T to shooting just 35.8 percent (24-for-67) from the floor while the Rangers hit 42.3 percent (11-for-26) of their opportunities from beyond the arc.
Parkside returns to action on Saturday afternoon, hosting its penultimate regular season home game with Drury University coming to DeSimone Gymnasium. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.
