SOMERS, Wis. (Jan. 29, 2015)-- A near capacity crowd at DeSimone Gymnasium did not go home disappointed on Thursday night as the host and 20th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team led wire-to-wire, slaying previously unbeaten and top-ranked University of Indianapolis, 72-68, to force a three-way tie atop the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division standings.

The Rangers' (17-2, 9-1 GLVC) victory snapped the No. 1 Greyhounds (17-1, 9-1 GLVC) 17-game win streak and forces a three-way logjam atop the East along with Bellarmine University (17-2, 9-1 GLVC) who dispatched the University of Illinois Springfield 80-60 on Thursday.

UW-Parkside held a tenuous 44-42 lead with 10:32 remaining in the game before Jimmy Gavin drained a three-pointer, touching off a 16-4 Ranger run over the next five minutes to build its largest lead of the night at 14-points. Parkside enjoyed a 10-point buffer with 3:59 left but the Greyhounds scored the next six points to close within four with 2:58 remaining off a Joe Lawson dunk. UW-Parkside maintained its poise down the stretch, sinking all eight of its free throw attempts in the final two minutes, including the final four by Andy Mazurczak, guiding the Rangers to the upset win over the nation's top ranked team.

UW-Parkside came out of the gate swinging. building an early 9-3 lead just four minutes into the contest. UIndy pulled within a point at 9-8 and again at 13-12 but the hosts scored the next six, enjoying a 19-12 lead with 8:31 remaining in the first half. The Hounds closed within two with 6:35 left off a Joe Lawson bucket but the Rangers netted 10 of the next 12, capped off by an Andy Mazurczak three to extend Parkside's lead to double digits just over three minutes before halftime. Indianapolis again chipped away at the lead as the Rangers owned a 31-27 edge after 20 minutes of action.

Mazurczak and Gavin led the Rangers scoring attack, each finishing with 17 points while dishing out four assists. 15 of Gavin's points came in the second half while also grabbing a game-high six steals. Jalen Currie had 11 points and seven boards while Jordan Mach added nine points.

Jordan Loyd led UIndy with 22 points while Joe Lawson netted 20.

The Rangers shot 42.9 percent (21-for-49) from the floor and held UIndy to shooting just 38.9 percent (21-for-54) from the field. Parkside additionally hit 55.6 percent (five-for-nine) of its chances from three-point range.

UW-Parkside closes its homestand on Saturday afternoon, welcoming Saint Joseph's College to DeSimone Gymnasium for a 3 p.m. tipoff on Alumni Day.
