(Jan. 22, 2015)-- The 19th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team extended its win streak to 12 on Thursday night, crushing Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division rival University of Southern Indiana 73-50 inside the Physical Activities Center.
The Rangers (16-1, 8-0 GLVC) never trailed in the contest, owning a 10-point barrier at the halftime break. UW-Parkside led 16-15 with 11:22 left in the opening stanza before utilizing an 8-0 spurt to extend the lead to nine. The visitors advantage swelled to as many as 13 points before enjoying a 32-22 lead after 20 minutes of action.
The Screaming Eagles (11-5, 4-4 GLVC) whittled the gap to just four with 13:08 remaining off a pair of George Edwards free throws but the Rangers proved to be too strong down the stretch scoring seven of the next nine to reestablish a double digit lead. Parkside continued to pull away, finishing the game on a 16-3 run for the 23-point blowout win.
Zygimantas Riauka collected his sixth double-double of the season, posting a game-high 20 points with 10 boards while shooting 10-for-14 from the field.
Jimmy Gavin dropped 16 points,
Andy Mazurczak had 14 points while
Mohamed Mohamed came off the bench and added nine.
Gavin Schumann netted 15 points to pace Southern Indiana while Edwards had 11 points and nine rebounds.
UW-Parkside finished the game shooting 56.9 percent (29-for-51) while holding the Eagles to shooting just 31.6 percent (18-for-57) for the game.
The Rangers close their road trip on Saturday afternoon, facing Bellarmine University at 3 p.m. (Eastern Time) inside Knights Hall in Louisville, Kentucky.
