Jordan Mach steal with four ticks left iced the game for the 22nd-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team on Monday night inside Neil Carey Arena, collecting its 11th straight victory by downing Lewis University 69-65 in a wild Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division clash featuring 13 lead changes and 10 ties.
Â
The Rangers (15-1, 7-0 GLVC) opened up a 10-point gap with 14:23 left in the game off a Mach three but the hosts answered with seven in a row to pull within a possession at 54-51 with 9:50 remaining.
Jimmy Gavin sunk a pair of free throws with 7:36 left to push Parkside's edge to five but the host Flyers (12-4, 4-3 GLVC) knifed the lead to just one off a Max Strus jumper with 5:52 remaining. Neither team would lead by more than a possession the rest of the way until Gavin drilled a free throw with four seconds left to secure the four-point win.
Â
Lewis grabbed its final lead of the night with 2:05 remaining off a Brad Foster free throw but the Flyers were held scoreless the rest of the way, turning the ball over twice in that span, including the game sealing turnover with four ticks left generated by Mach.
Â
The host Flyers owned its biggest advantage of the game at 24-19 with 7:45 remaining in the opening stanza but the Green and White tallied the next seven to reestablish its lead. The Rangers led by as many as seven in the opening half and took a 39-34 lead into the break.
