(Jan. 17, 2015)-- Another dominant second half paved the way for the 22nd-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball squad's 10th-consecutive win, obliterating McKendree University 90-63 on Saturday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division clash inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
The Rangers (14-1, 6-0 GLVC) and Bearcats (8-6, 1-5 GLVC) traded jabs the opening half featuring eight lead changes and three ties. UW-Parkside tallied the final two buckets of the half, enjoying a 35-29 advantage after 20 minutes of action.
Parkside's lead swelled to 11 points just over four minutes into the second half off a
Chavares Flanigan jumper. McKendree cut the deficit to just three with 9:44 remaining but the Rangers scored 31 of the game's 38 points to secure the 27-point victory.
Zygimantas Riauka and
Jimmy Gavin paced the Rangers, both pouring on 18 points. Riauka additionally chipped in eight boards and six blocks.
Andy Mazurczak contributed 15 points while
Mohamed Mohamed had 14 points off the bench.
Matt Holmes led McKendree with 15 points and seven points while Michael Jackson added 14.
UW-Parkside shot a red-hot 61.4 percent (35-for-57) from the floor while holding McKendree to shooting just 45.6 percent (26-for-57). The Rangers canned 50 percent (eight-for-16) from beyond the arc while owning a 23-6 edge in bench points.
The Rangers are back in action on Monday night, hitting the road to face Lewis University.
