SOMERS, Wis. (Dec. 16, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team win their third game in a row by controlling Upper Iowa University 83-67 in a non-conference matchup at the DeSimone Gymnasium.  Zygimantas Riauka led the team with 20 points and 12 rebounds in a game that was close in the first half, but saw the Rangers pull away in the second half of the game.

The Peacocks (7-4) opened up the game trading baskets with the Rangers (7-1) and held an 11-10 lead early in the first half.  Upper Iowa tried to increase their lead, but Riauka blocked a layup that gave the ball back to Parkside.  That turnover led to a Jordan Mach three pointer at the 14:44 mark to give Parkside the lead they would hold for the rest of the game.  Upper Iowa stayed close throughout the first half, and the Rangers held a slight lead at halftime 39-33.

Upper Iowa started the second half in foul trouble that put Parkside in the bonus after only four minutes.  Parkside saw their lead swell to 25 points with over seven minutes left in the game.  During a Rangers 19-5 run, both Jordan Mach and Kendale McCullum had steals they were able to convert to baskets on the other end of the court.  Parkside was 12 for 16 from the line in a second half that saw both teams reach the double digits in fouls.

Four Rangers were in double figures, led by Riauka's 20 points.  Jimmy Gavin followed up with 14 and both Jordan Mach and Andy Mazurczak had 10 each.  Jalen Currie had 10 rebounds on the night, and was a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line.

Upper Iowa had three players with 11 points including Bo Pagel who was also 9-for-10 at the charity stripe.

UW-Parkside won the game underneath the basket by out rebounding Upper Iowa 43-31, and outscoring the Peacocks in the paint 41-26.  The Rangers shot 50 percent in the first half for a total 46.8 percent (29-62) on the game, and held their opponents to 39.2 percent (20-51).

The Rangers finish their home stand this Saturday with their final non-conference matchup against Michigan Tech at 3pm.
