(Nov. 15, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team escaped the island of Puerto Rico unscathed, downing host University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras 75-55 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
The Rangers (2-0) and Gallitos (0-1) exchanged leads on three occasions before UW-Parkside pulled away, enjoying a 42-20 advantage at the halftime break. Parkside led by as many as 27-points en route to the blowout win, finishing its tour of the island undefeated.
Zygimantas Riauka led the Rangers offensively, pouring on 23 points with eight rebounds after shooting 10-for-14 from the field.
Jimmy Gavin tallied nine points with four assists while
Chavares Flanigan and
Mohamed Mohamed each collected eight points.
Parkside shot 51.9 percent (28-for-54) from the floor, including 57.1 percent (12-for-21) in the second 20 minutes of play while limiting UPR-Rio Piedras to just 35.8 percent (19-for-53) shooting. The Rangers owned the Gallitos on the glass, finishing with a commanding 44-24 rebounding advantage.
Brian Martinez paced the Gallitos with 20 points while Omar de Jesus dropping 10 points off the bench.
The Rangers are back in action on Friday, taking on Saint Cloud State University.
