(Nov. 14, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball squad encountered little resistance in the season opener on Friday, downing host University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon 73-53 with three Rangers finishing in double figures.
Jimmy Gavin was red-hot from the field, sinking eight of his 10 attempts from the floor to pace the Rangers (1-0) with 21 points.
Zygimantas Riauka posted a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 15 boards along with six assists while
Andy Mazurczak was the third UW-Parkside player in doubel digit scoring, collecting 10 points after shooting four-for-five.
Jalen Currie added seven points and eight rebounds in his Ranger debut while
Chavares Flanigan finished with eight points.
Jesus Marquez led the Vaqueros (0-1) with 10 points while Alexis Parrilla chipped in eight points.
UW-Parkside shot 54.7 percent (29-for-53) from the floor during the game, including 44.4 percent (four-for-nine) from long distance and outrebounded the hosts by a 36-26 margin.
The Rangers close their tour of Puerto Rico on Saturday with a game against the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras.
