GEORGETOWN, Ky. (Apr. 7, 2013)-- Battling the elements and a star studded field featuring several regional heavyweights, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's golf squad finished eighth at the 24-team Jewell Midwest Region Spring Invitational held at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course.
The Rangers carded a two-day tally of 601, shooting a 293 on Saturday before shooting a 308 on a windy Sunday. The eighth place finish comes just a week removed from the Rangers' victory at the 14-team Otter Creek Invitational.
Great Lakes Valley Conference rival University of Missouri-Saint Louis captured the team title, shooting a two-day tally of 572 (281-291) while also boasting the top individual finisher in David Abolt, who took home medalist honors after shooting a 137 (65-72). Ferris State University (300-295) and Bellarmine University (288-307) tied for second with a score of 595 while the University of Indianapolis was fourth with a 596 (300-296).
Jake Wisniewski and
Kyle Kolberg paced UW-Parkside both tying for 13th overall. Wisniewski shot a 73 on Saturday and closed the invite with a 75 on Sunday for a two day tally of 148. Kolberg's identical score came after a 70 on Saturday and a 78 on Sunday.
Nick Corban tied for 35th, shooting 76s on both days of competition while
Keith Buntrock was 45th with a 153 (74-79).
The Rangers have won final tune-up before the GLVC Championships, heading to Noblesville, Ind. on Apr. 14 for the Regional Invitational #4 at the Purgatory Golf Club.
