COLUMBUS, Ind. (Apr. 22, 2013)-- After two days and three rounds of play, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's golf squad fell one spot shy of advancing to the match play semifinals at the 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships on Monday, finishing fifth at the 14-team event held at the Otter Creek Golf Club.
The Rangers carded a two-day and three-round total of 904 (301-301-302), finishing 10 strokes shy of Lewis University for the fourth and final spot in the match play semifinals slated to begin on Tuesday.
The University of Missouri-Saint Louis leads the team standings, compiling a score of 877 (293-292-292) while claiming the top individual finisher in Joe Atkisson who won top medalist honors in a playoff and finishing with a score of 214 (70-73-71). Bellarmine University secured second place with a tally of 884 followed by the University of Indianapolis (888) and Lewis (894).
Nick Corban led the Rangers, posting a three round tally of 222 to place just outside the top 10 in 11th place. The sophomore shot a 73 in his opening round on Sunday before registering a 78 in the afternoon. Corban closed the tournament with his best round, finishing with a 71.
Keith Buntrock and
Brian Krupo tied for 31st overall while
Jake Wisniewski was 40th and
Kyle Kolberg 50th. Buntrock steadily improved the entire championships, opening with an 81 before tallying a 74 and a 73 for a 228, matching the score of Krupo (75-74-79). Wisniewski tallied a 230 (73-78-79) while Kolberg carded a 236 (80-75-81).
The Rangers look to sharpen their game next Monday at the American Family Classic before hosting the NCAA Division II Super Regional beginning on May 6 at The Club at Strawberry Creek.
