EUREKA, Mo. (Oct. 8, 2012)-- Jake Wisniewski claimed top individual honors, helping the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's golf squad to the team title at the nine-team Maryville Fall Invitational at the Aberdeen Golf Club.
Wisniewski was tied for second after day one, shooting a 75 before recording a one-under 70 on Monday to tie day one leader Jake Wherley (73-72) of the University of Illinois-Springfield, forcing a playoff. Wisniewski prevailed on the third hole of the playoff giving the Rangers the individual champion and the team crown.
The Rangers held a three-stroke lead after day one and finished the two-day event by carding a 597 to win the nine-team invitational. UW-Parkside shot a 303 on Sunday before closing out with a 294 on Monday to secure the crown and the squad's third top four finish of the fall.
Great Lakes Valley Conference rivals Illinois-Springfield and Quincy University placed second and third, respectively. The Prairie Stars finished with a 602 (206-296) while the Hawks carded a 611 (315-296). McKendree University placed fourth with a 613 (309-304) while the host Saints finished fifth (619; 310-309).
Nick Corban finished sixth with a 150 (78-72) with
Keith Buntrock and
Brian Krupo tying for seventh. Buntrock shot a 77 on Sunday and a 74 on Monday for a 151 while Krupo carded a 73 on Sunday and a 78 on Monday.
Kyle Kolberg was the fifth UWP golfer in the top 25, placing 22nd after shooting 79 on both days.
The Rangers return to the links on Oct. 20, heading out to Monterey, Calif. for the Otter Invitational hosted by California State University-Monterey Bay at the Bayonet Golf Course.
