SEASIDE, Calif. (Oct. 23, 2012)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's golf team capped off a successful fall season on Tuesday, finishing 16th at the star-studded Otter Invitational at Bayonet Golf Course, an event that featured eight nationally-ranked squads and three of the previous four national champions.
The Rangers carded a team score of 956 after three rounds, consistently lowering their score as the event went on to place 16th. UW-Parkside shot a combined 323 in the opening round before following up with rounds of 319 and 314.
Host and 2011 national champion California State University-Monterey Bay secured top honors with a combined score of 874 (285-307-282), edging defending national champion and top-ranked Nova Southeastern University by four strokes. 12th-ranked Western Washington University was third (897) followed by No. 14 Saint Edward's University (898). 2009 national champion Sonoma State University was sixth (908) while fourth-ranked and 2012 national runner-up California State University-Chico was 12th with a team score of 926.
Keith Buntrock and
Kyle Kolberg paced the Rangers at the two-day competition, tying for 50th after carding a 235. Buntrock shot a 77 in his opening round before shooting a 82 and a 76 while Kolberg opened with a 79 and finished with by carding an 80 and a 76.
Jake Wisniewski finished 74th with a 242 (85-76-81) while
Brian Krupo was five spots and two strokes back in 79th with a 244 (82-81-81).
Nova Southeastern's Ben Taylor secured top individual honors, shooting a 212 (71-71-70).
The Rangers go into hibernation the next four months, returning to the links on March 26 for the Desert Shootout in Scottsdale, Ariz.
