7-0 win keeps team undefeated

The UW-Parkside women's soccer team shutout Kentucky Wesleyan for the ninth consecutive season in its lopsided 7-0 win over the Panthers. The game was played at UW-Parkside's Wood Road Field Sunday afternoon.

                The Rangers remain undefeated and are now 5-0-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Panthers dropped to 3-4-1 overall and 1-4-0 in league play.

                It was the ninth consecutive season that the Rangers have shutout the Panthers. In those nine games, UW-Parkside has out-scored Kentucky Wesleyan by a resounding 46-0 count.

                It took 25:06 for the Rangers to get on the scoreboard. Meredith Novak tallied the first of her two goals in the game on a give-and-go with Becky Zirlin. The Rangers tacked on two more before halftime. Kelsey Krzyaniak came off the bench to tally one of her two goals at 38:47.

                Kahili Cheng wrapped up the first half scoring with a penalty kick at 42:26.

                Shannon Becker opened the second half scoring on a breakaway with an assist from Novak. Kristen Benson got into the act with a goal before Novak and Krzyaniak each scored their second of the game.

                The Rangers, ranked No. 17 in the nation, will tour Kentucky next weekend with matches at Bellarmine on Friday and Northern Kentucky on Sunday. The latter will be a rematch of the GLVC championship game, which the Rangers won last season, 1-0.
