KENOSHA, Wis. — The Parkside women's soccer team continues to roll, defeating Michigan Tech 2-0 on Friday afternoon. Parkside outshot the Huskies 26-9, including 21-5 in the second half, and put nine shots on goal while recording the shutout. This is the third consecutive game in which the Rangers have put at least nine shots on goal.
Parkside held a 5-4 shot edge in the first half and scored the only goal, with Schmidt scoring off Brown's assist at 35:17. The Huskies put one attempt off the left woodwork and the teams finished the half even in fouls, 6-6, with one yellow card apiece.
The opening goal came in the 36th minute.
Kate Brown fired a high centering ball from the left wing that was initially knocked down by Tech's keeper Bri Barrows, but
Kayden Schmidt was right there to tap the rebound home, as Parkside took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Parkside recorded 21 second-half attempts to the Huskies' five and earned an 8-1 edge in corner kicks, with six shots saved by Bri Barrows and three others hitting the woodwork. Ferrara made two saves after halftime.
The finishing touches were put on in the 90th minute by
Isabel Morales, who chipped a shot home from just inside of the six after an incredible offensive effort from
Ava Rizzitano, who worked the ball up all the way from midfield into the box. She then found an open Morales, who finished the job.
Schmidt scored the game-winning goal and put two of her three shots on goal. She has now scored at least one goal in three consecutive games. Morales added a goal on two shots off the bench. Brown recorded an assist, tied for the team lead with five shots, a season-high, and put three on goal. Ferrara played all 90 minutes in goal, made two saves and finished with a shutout. This is the first time the Rangers have pitched four consecutive shutouts since 2014.
Parkside is 5-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in GLIAC play. The Huskies are now 0-7-0 overall and 0-3-0 in GLIAC play.
