The UW-Parkside women's soccer team got back into the win column with a decisive 6-1 win over Saint Joseph's College at a windy Wood Road Field Sunday afternoon.
The win by the Rangers ups their overall record to 6-2-2. The squad is 5-2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Pumas remain winless with a 0-10 overall record and an 0-8 mark in league play.
The Rangers out-scored their guests, 4-0, in a dominant second half. In the second set of 45 minutes, UW-Parkside had 19 shot attempts, while the Pumas could not get a single shot off. Parkside put 18 shots on goal in the game, while St. Joseph's had only two, the first of which went in at 18:56 of the first half.
Parkside opened the scoring on the first shot of the match. Becky Zirlin scored her fourth goal of the season from 35 yards out with an assist to Crystal Chalery. After the St. Joseph's tally, the Rangers took the lead for good at 26:30 when Chalery scored a goal of her own with help from Zirlin.
The score remained 2-1 at intermission before the Rangers exploded for four in the second half.
Madison Pickett, Meredith Novak, Chalery and Natalie Brown all scored for the Rangers. Chalery had a four-point day with a pair of goals and two assists.
“We made a couple of changes with our lineup and one was to put Crystal up top, which makes us more dangerous,” explained UW-Parkside head coach Troy Fabiano. “We needed to get some momentum and make some changes because we haven't gotten the results we wanted in each of the three previous games.”
The Rangers will be on the road next Sunday, Oct. 11, at Lewis.
