Allendale, Mich. – The second-seeded Parkside women's soccer team saw its postseason run come to an end on Thursday afternoon, falling 1–0 to third-seeded Saginaw Valley State in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals at the GVSU Soccer Field. The tightly contested match was decided by a single second-half goal, despite a late surge from the Rangers.
Both sides played to a scoreless opening 45 minutes, with Saginaw Valley holding an 8–2 edge in shots. Parkside goalkeeper
Tristen Cross kept the Rangers level with a pair of early stops, including saves in the 8th and 21st minutes to keep the Cardinals off the board.
Saginaw Valley broke through in the 55th minute when Rileigh Garbarz finished a low shot inside the box, assisted by Kylie Ceserak to give the Cardinals a 1–0 advantage.
Parkside responded with its strongest offensive stretch of the match, generating seven second-half shots.
Emily Mikkelson forced two saves — including an 89th-minute attempt that nearly found the upper corner.
Cross finished with six saves, helping the Rangers withstand sustained pressure as Saginaw Valley totaled 18 shots and eight corner kicks on the day.
Parkside totaled nine shots and earned its lone corner in the 57th minute as it continued to chase the equalizer.
Despite the final push, time ran out on the Rangers' comeback bid, sending Saginaw Valley to the GLIAC Championship match.
