'07 team provides No. 400 for Kilps

Johnson Thao

There have been and will continue to be highlights in the careers of the men's soccer players on the 2007 team at UW-Parkside. One of which will be remembered was the day their head coach Rick Kilps, scored his 400th career win. It came on a Sunday afternoon in Owensboro, Kentucky, where the Rangers beat Kentucky Wesleyan, 3-1.

In a legendary 31-year career, Kilps is now 400-152-42. He has been the head coach at UW-Parkside for 24 years...all but one of his teams have been nationally ranked at one point during its respective season. His winning percentage is a staggering .710 and is only the fourth coach in NCAA Division II history to record win No. 400.

The Rangers set the tone early, specifically Johnson Thao (St. Paul, Minn.). He scored early, at 9:14, on an assist from Bojan Jovicic (Milwaukee, Wis.). Shortly after, at 15:12, Thao tallied again with an assist from Jovicic and Armin Mehic (Sarajevo, Bosnia).

UW-Parkside made it 3-0 at halftime. Andrew Gamarra (Lexington, Kentucky) scored in his home state by notching the last Ranger goal at 38:46 with help from Renaldo Vega (Oakdale, Minn.).

Kentucky Wesleyan, which had 11 shots on goal, tallied at 42:42 against goalkeeper Victor Perez (Kenosha, Wis.), who played the second half. Perez made six saves and Jamie Lieberman (Racine, Wis.), who played the first half, turned away four shots on goal.
