BAY CITY, Mich. – Parkside softball sophomore pitcher Casey Jo Vermett has been named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Monday.

Vermett was nearly untouchable in the circle during Parkside's final week of the regular season, tossing 13 consecutive scoreless innings across two starts against Roosevelt. She finished the week with two complete-game shutouts, allowing just 4 total hits while striking out 25 batters and holding opponents to a .095 batting average.

The sophomore opened the week Wednesday in Rosemont, Ill., by throwing a one-hit complete-game shutout in game one of the doubleheader against the Lakers. Vermett struck out 11 and walked just 2 in the outing, setting the tone for another dominant week in the circle.

She followed it up with a historic performance Saturday at Case Softball Complex. Vermett threw her second straight complete-game shutout in game one of the doubleheader, but the biggest moment came in the top of the third inning. With her fifth strikeout of the game, Vermett officially became just the fourth Ranger in program history to record 200 or more strikeouts in a single season. She is the first Parkside pitcher to reach the milestone in 18 years, with Meagan Shimkus last accomplishing the feat in 2008.

Vermett enters the postseason as the leader of the Parkside pitching staff, carrying a 2.90 ERA while owning a GLIAC-best 209 strikeouts. She also ranks third in the nation in strikeouts per 7 innings at 9.9 and is tied for the GLIAC lead with 16 complete games.
