BAY CITY, Mich. – The Parkside softball team had four student-athletes earn All-GLIAC honors, the league announced Wednesday, following a 2026 regular season filled with historic individual performances.
Senior third baseman Mia Johnson and sophomore pitcher Casey Jo Vermett were both named First Team All-GLIAC, while senior catcher Megan Medlin and sophomore first baseman Ava Swain earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention recognition.
Johnson earned First Team All-GLIAC honors for the fourth time in her career, putting together the most complete season of her decorated Parkside career. The senior started all 52 games and slashed .456/.605/.966, finishing with 67 hits, 57 runs, 20 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, 43 RBI, 142 total bases, 56 walks and seven stolen bases. Defensively, Johnson made just three errors at third base all season, finishing with a .981 fielding percentage, 69 putouts and 90 assists.
Johnson dominated the GLIAC and ranked among the best players in the country in nearly every major offensive category. She led the conference in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, doubles, doubles per game, home runs, home runs per game, runs, runs per game, total bases and walks per game. Nationally, she ranked third in NCAA Division II in slugging percentage, fifth in on-base percentage, eighth in total bases, 10th in home runs, 13th in doubles, 14th in home runs per game, 17th in runs, 19th in batting average, 23rd in doubles per game, 32nd in runs per game and second in walks per game.
In GLIAC play, Johnson remained one of the toughest outs in the league, hitting .372 with a .533 on-base percentage and a .692 slugging percentage. She started all 28 conference games, totaling 29 hits, 25 runs, eight doubles, one triple, five home runs, 16 RBI, 54 total bases, 27 walks and five stolen bases. She also recorded 57 assists at third base during conference play.
Johnson, the 2024 and 2025 GLIAC Player of the Year, also added another program milestone to her resume on the final day of the regular season, breaking Parkside's career doubles record. Her 58th career double moved her past Jackie Aiken and broke a record that had stood for nearly three decades.
Vermett earned First Team All-GLIAC honors for the first time in her career after a breakout sophomore campaign in the circle. She led the Parkside pitching staff with a 2.90 ERA, going 15-8 across 27 appearances and 22 starts. Vermett threw 16 complete games, five shutouts and worked 147.1 innings, striking out 209 batters while holding opponents to a .205 batting average.
Vermett's strikeout season was one of the best in program history. She led the GLIAC with 209 strikeouts and ranked eighth nationally in the category. She also led the league and ranked third in the country in strikeouts per 7 innings at 9.9. Vermett also led the conference in innings pitched, hits allowed per seven innings and complete games, while ranking second in the GLIAC in pitching appearances, third in games started and third in shutouts.
In conference play, Vermett was even sharper, posting a 2.31 ERA with a 10-6 record across 18 appearances and 14 starts. She threw 12 complete games and four shutouts in GLIAC action, striking out 144 batters in 97.0 innings while holding conference opponents to a .195 batting average.
The sophomore also etched her name into Parkside history late in the regular season, becoming just the fourth Ranger ever to record 200 or more strikeouts in a single season and the first to do so in 18 years. Earlier in the season, Vermett also tossed a no-hitter against Quincy in April, adding another signature moment to her breakout campaign.
Medlin earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors for the second straight season, adding to a career resume that also includes First Team All-GLIAC honors in 2024. The senior catcher started all 52 games and finished the regular season with 36 hits, 18 runs, seven doubles, six home runs, 28 RBI, 61 total bases and a .394 slugging percentage.
Defensively, Medlin continued to anchor the Rangers behind the plate. She finished the regular season with a .992 fielding percentage, 217 putouts, 26 assists and only two errors. She also led the GLIAC and ranked 60th nationally with 10 runners caught stealing.
In conference play, Medlin hit .233 with 20 hits, nine runs, five doubles, three home runs and 16 RBI. She posted a .395 slugging percentage and was perfect defensively in GLIAC action, recording 125 putouts, 19 assists and no errors for a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Swain earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors for the first time in her career after being named Second Team All-GLIAC last season. The sophomore first baseman started all 52 games for Parkside, finishing with 37 hits, 21 runs, four doubles, one triple, four home runs, 19 RBI and a .408 on-base percentage. She also drew 32 walks and was hit by nine pitches, ranking second on the team in both categories.
Swain ranked second in the GLIAC and 75th nationally in hit by pitch, while also ranking third in the conference and 64th nationally in walks per game. She was also steady defensively at first base, finishing the regular season with 280 putouts, four assists, eight double plays and a .973 fielding percentage.
During GLIAC play, Swain posted a .426 on-base percentage, drawing 20 walks and being hit by five pitches across 28 conference starts. She added 18 hits, 11 runs, one triple, two home runs, seven RBI and 26 total bases while committing just three errors in conference play for a .983 fielding percentage.
As a team, Parkside finished the regular season 25-27 overall and 14-14 in GLIAC play. The Rangers ranked first in the GLIAC in doubles, doubles per game, home runs, home runs per game, hit by pitch and strikeouts per seven innings. Parkside also ranked second in the conference in walks and hits allowed per seven innings, third in earned run average and sacrifice flies, and fourth in runs batted in, RBI per game, scoring and total runs. Nationally, the Rangers ranked 14th in strikeouts per seven innings, 21st in walks, 24th in hit by pitch, 36th in home runs, 45th in home runs per game and 49th in doubles.
