KENOSHA, Wis. – No. 18 Ferris State used a decisive second half to erase a tight halftime margin and pull away from Parkside for an 82-69 win Saturday at De Simone Arena, handing the Rangers their second straight loss.
Parkside trailed 22-18 after the opening quarter, but flipped the game in the second with its best stretch of the afternoon. The Rangers won the period 24-18 to take a 42-40 lead into the break, getting a lift from their bench and the free-throw line after Ferris State opened the game shooting 57% in the first quarter (8 for 14).
The turning point came after halftime. Ferris State outscored Parkside 23-15 in the third quarter to regain control, then held the Rangers to 4-for-18 shooting in the fourth as it closed the day on a 19-12 final period. Parkside finished at 38% from the field (24 for 64) and 23% from 3 (7 for 30), including 2 for 12 from deep in the fourth quarter, while Ferris State shot 49% overall (29 for 59) and did most of its damage inside and at the stripe.
Ferris State turned 17 Parkside turnovers into 23 points and won the points-in-the-paint battle 36-28. The Bulldogs also made 20 of 23 free throws (87%), including a 9-for-10 fourth quarter at the line to keep the Rangers from making a final push.
Kadyn Blanchard led Ferris State with 24 points on 9-for-16 shooting to go with eight rebounds and four assists. Mia Riley added 23 points and lived at the line, going 11 for 13 on free throws, while Mya Hiram chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds as the Bulldogs improved to 18-4 overall and 11-2 in GLIAC play.
Parkside got four players in double figures and won several of the effort categories, but could not sustain its second-quarter momentum. Lillie Petersen scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Alli Hampel posted 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench and went a perfect 6 for 6 at the free-throw line. Jaelyn Derlein added 12 points behind three 3-pointers, and Katie Hamill finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Peighton Nelson added seven assists, and Cassidy Arni contributed three blocks as the Rangers won the rebounding battle 36-32 and outscored Ferris State 32-11 in bench points. Parkside also finished with 12 offensive rebounds and a 14-9 edge in second-chance points, but Ferris State's efficiency and turnover scoring proved to be the difference.
