KENOSHA, Wis. – Parkside finally flipped the script against Ferris State on Saturday, snapping a five-game losing streak to the Bulldogs and earning its first GLIAC win since Jan. 10 with an 82-63 victory inside De Simone Arena.
Parkside set the tone with a 44-35 halftime lead and never let Ferris State fully settle in, winning the second half 38-28 while forcing 16 Bulldogs turnovers and turning them into 19 points. The Rangers also owned the pace in transition, outscoring Ferris 17-2 in fast-break points, and won the bench scoring battle 34-24.
Paxton Warden led the Rangers with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting and added four rebounds and two steals as one of three Parkside players in double figures. Luka Mateski provided a major lift off the bench with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting, and Josiah Palmer finished with 11 points while pulling down seven rebounds.
Ferris State was led by Chang Hoth and Joey Cabana with 11 points apiece, while Keashaun Johnson added 10. The Bulldogs struggled to find consistent offense, shooting 35% overall (25-of-71), 21% from 3-point range (6-of-28) and 54% at the line (7-of-13). Parkside shot 45% (30-of-67), hit 28% from deep (7-of-25) and went 68% at the stripe (15-of-22).
The game was tight early, with 10 lead changes and five ties, but Parkside's shot-making and defensive activity created separation. The Rangers knocked down six 3-pointers in the first half, getting triples from Warden, Zach Behn, Jack Rose, Braden McGlothlin and Palmer while mixing in paint touches to keep the Bulldogs off balance. Parkside finished with a 42-34 edge in points in the paint and used pressure to generate extra chances despite Ferris State winning the second-chance points category 15-4.
Parkside's defense was anchored by Fawaz Surakat, who posted nine points, 10 rebounds and five blocks, helping the Rangers win the rim-protection battle and hold Ferris State to 35% shooting for the game. Parkside finished with seven blocks and 11 steals, with McGlothlin recording three steals off the bench.
Ferris State threatened with offensive rebounding and interior looks, but Parkside answered repeatedly in the second half. The Rangers opened the period with stops and scores to extend the margin, then kept the Bulldogs at arm's length with balanced scoring and timely plays in transition and the paint.
Parkside returns to the road next week, traveling to take on Davenport on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 4:30 p.m. CT.
