CHICAGO – Roosevelt knocked down 14 3-pointers and never let Parkside fully erase an early deficit as the Lakers earned an 80-70 win Thursday night at the Goodman Center. The result snapped Parkside's momentum late and marked Roosevelt's first home win of the season, along with the program's first-ever victory over the Rangers.
Parkside dug itself a hole early with a frigid first half from long range, going 1-for-15 from three and 9-for-35 overall as Roosevelt built a 34-25 lead at the break. The Lakers' perimeter shot-making set the tone, with Mikey West drilling six 3s and Roosevelt hitting 9-of-16 from deep in the opening 20 minutes.
Senior Paxton Warden delivered a career-high 28 points to keep Parkside within striking distance, finishing 9-for-19 from the field with eight rebounds and an 8-for-11 night at the line. Josiah Palmer added 10 points, while Zach Behn chipped in nine on 3-for-6 shooting with a pair of 3s off the bench.
Parkside showed life after halftime, shooting 14-for-31 in the second half and finally finding rhythm from deep at 7-for-18, but Roosevelt answered each push with timely shooting and free throws. The Rangers trimmed the margin to 10 inside the final five minutes, but could not get the stop needed to make it a one-possession game down the stretch.
Roosevelt was balanced behind West's 20 points and Hamahrie Bowers' 19-point, 18-rebound performance. Davon Smith-Johnson scored 13 points on 3-for-4 from three, Dante Sawyer added 13, and the Lakers finished 25-for-56 from the floor while shooting 14-for-27 from beyond the arc. Parkside won the rebounding battle 42-37 and held a 22-6 edge in bench points, but Roosevelt's efficiency from three and 16-for-19 performance at the foul line proved decisive.
Parkside returns home to De Simone Arena on Saturday, Feb. 7, to host Ferris State at 3 p.m. CT.
