ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Parkside Rangers men's track and field team competed Friday at the GVSU Big Meet, producing a strong slate of performances highlighted by an event win, multiple NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks, and a school-record effort.
Doug Martin led the way with a first-place finish in the 800 meters, clocking 1:48.70. The mark met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard, broke the Parkside school record, and currently ranks as the fourth-fastest time in NCAA Division II this season.
Cayton Cratch added a third-place finish in another section of the 800 meters (1:53.03), while
Amadeo Cortes Leclou placed 23rd overall (1:52.85).
On the sprint side,
Ian Liburd advanced to the finals of the 60 meters, placing seventh in 6.92 after running 6.89 in the preliminaries.
Jaylan Nelson finished 11th in the 200 meters (22.81), and
Michael Hendrix posted a time of 49.27 in the 400 meters. Hendrix also competed in the 60-meter hurdles alongside Mate Pesti, with the pair recording times of 8.38 and 8.36, respectively.
Parkside distance runners saw solid results in the 5,000 meters, led by
Beckett Pawlak (12th, 15:09.71),
Connor Sheahan (16th, 15:13.20),
Jack Hamilton (7th, 15:38.14), and
Jose Monroy (24th, 16:13.20).
In the field events,
Simon Dominic and
EJ Johnson each cleared 2.14 meters (7' 0.25") in the high jump to hit the NCAA provisional qualifying standard, placing sixth and seventh, respectively.
Ariel Molina added a fourth-place finish in another high jump section with a clearance of 1.94 meters (6' 4.25").
Lincoln Myer recorded a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.73 meters (22' 1").
