ALLENDALE, Mich. — The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's track and field team delivered a historic performance at the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing second overall with a program-record 147 points in Allendale, Michigan, on the campus of Grand Valley State University. The runner-up finish marks the highest placement in program history at the conference meet.
Carson Hull took home a major award for the Rangers to go along with his decathlon title. He was named GLIAC Outdoor Freshman Field Athlete of the Meet.
On the track,
Michael Hendrix led the way with a conference championship in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 51.45. He also added four team points in the 110-meter hurdles with a fifth-place finish.
The Rangers dominated the 400 hurdles finals, as
Carter Peet placed third (53.34) and
Thomas Stiltner finished fifth (54.45).
In the middle distance events,
Cayton Cratch secured a runner-up finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.71.
Doug Martin added 13 total points this weekend, finishing second in the 1500 meters (3:48.52) and fourth in the 800 meters (1:51.10), while
Amadeo Cortes Leclou chipped in a point with an eighth-place finish in the 800.
Distance points continued to add up as
Connor Sheahan placed fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:11.85) and fifth in the 5000 meters (14:57.90).
Beckett Pawlak added three points with a sixth-place finish in the steeplechase, while
Robin Bertsch contributed a point in the 1500 meters with an eighth-place finish.
In the sprints,
Ian Liburd scored in both the 100 and 200 meters, placing fifth (10.61) and sixth (21.55).
Jaylan Nelson added a point with an eighth-place finish in the 200 meters.
Parkside also found success in the relays, with the 4x400-meter relay team of Peet, Cortes, Martin and Hendrix placing second in a school record setting time of 3:15.15, while the 4x100-meter relay team of Bolden, Liburd, Hendrix and Cowart added a fourth-place finish.
In the field events,
Máté Pesti captured a GLIAC title in the triple jump with a mark of 13.93 meters.
Ariel Molina was a key contributor across multiple events, finishing fourth in the triple jump (12.94m), fifth in the high jump (1.95m), and seventh in the long jump (6.86m).
Gabe Runkel added a point with an eighth-place finish in the triple jump.
In the vertical jumps,
EJ Johnson cleared 2.05 meters to place third in the high jump, while
Ryan Peel finished third in the pole vault (4.42m) to add five more.
The throws group also contributed key points, led by
Carson Hull, who placed second in the javelin (50.97m).
Cooper Vail added points in both the discus (seventh, 42.05m) and javelin (sixth, 47.15m), while
Kaelan McDonough (seventh) and Nicholas Katsma (eighth) contributed additional points in the javelin.
Hull and Katsma also delivered a dominant showing in the decathlon, finishing first and second, respectively. Hull claimed the GLIAC title with 6,014 points, while Katsma followed with 5,828 points.
Parkside will now turn its attention to last chance meets next weekend, where several athletes will make their final push to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships. Results and coverage can be found at ParksideRangers.com.
