Rangers Battle Back for Road Win at Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — (RV) Parkside volleyball battled back after dropping the opening set to Lewis University, winning three straight sets to secure a 3-1 victory over the Flyers on Tuesday night. Sierra Kilbourn led the Rangers with 20 kills on a .486 hitting percentage and reached 500 career kills in the win.

Parkside moved ahead 4-2 early in the opening set behind kills from Emily Zaper and Sierra Kilbourn, but Lewis answered with seven straight points to take a 9-4 lead. The Rangers got kills from Kilbourn and Maia Olson to stay within 10-7, before Lewis scored six consecutive points, including a Sarah Newberry ace and kills from Rachel Kaczorowski and Ella Skogman, to stretch the margin to 16-7. Parkside later put together small pushes with kills from Monica Lukasiewicz, Zaper, Olson and Kilbourn, and a Lewis attack error made it 22-16. Lewis took the final three points on a Newberry kill, a Parkside attack error and a Lauren Buxton kill to finish the set 25-16.

Parkside worked back from an early 8-3 deficit as kills by Olson, Kilbourn and Zaper helped trim the gap to 12-10. After Abby Alms tied the set at 14-14 with a kill, Lewis moved back in front 18-15 before Parkside put together seven straight points, including a kill and service ace by Lucy Russ, two kills from Kilbourn and a Dani Kopacz kill, to go ahead 22-18. Kilbourn added another kill and Lauren Peters served an ace to push Parkside to set point at 24-19, and after Lewis scored three straight, Kilbourn finished the 25-22 set win with a kill from Russ.

Parkside created the first separation in the third set by moving from a 3-3 tie to a 9-5 lead, with Olson serving an ace, Zaper adding a kill and an ace, and Dani Kopacz contributing a kill during the stretch. Lewis came back to tie the set at 11-11 on a Kynzie Lilly ace, but Parkside went back ahead and held a 17-14 lead after Zaper's kill from Natalie Harris. Lewis scored the next four points, capped by a block from Ella Skogman and Hannah Dietzenbach, to move in front 18-17. Parkside answered with five of the next six points, including two Olson kills and kills from Kopacz and Alms, and after Lewis closed within 24-23, Lukasiewicz finished the set with a kill from Russ for a 25-23 win.

After Lewis moved ahead 3-1, Parkside scored six straight points, getting two kills from Zaper, two Olson service aces and a Lewis attack error to take a 7-3 lead. Lewis worked back within 10-9, but Parkside answered with four straight points behind a Harris ace, an Olson kill and another Zaper kill to push the margin to 14-9. The Rangers added another stretch from 15-10 to 18-10 that included two Dani Kopacz kills and a Russ ace, then moved ahead 21-11 on a Kilbourn-Olson block and an Olson kill. After Lewis got to 21-13, Parkside closed the set with four straight points, finishing the 25-13 win on kills by Zaper and Kilbourn.

Sierra Kilbourn led the Rangers with 20 kills on a .486 hitting percentage and a season-high 20.5 points, while also recording a block assist and reaching 500 career kills. Natalie Harris tallied 29 digs, two assists and a service ace, while Lucy Russ recorded 34 assists, 11 digs and two service aces. Maia Olson added 11 kills on a .417 hitting percentage, four service aces—a season high—and 15.5 points. Emily Zaper contributed 12 kills, surpassing her season average of 9.29, along with 17 digs, exceeding her season average of 9.43, and a service ace.
