MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Parkside men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Northern Michigan on Sunday at the NMU Soccer Field. Parkside kept the match scoreless despite facing 17 first-half shots, then took 14 of its 17 shots after halftime.
The Wildcats held a 26-17 advantage in shots and put 10 attempts on frame compared with five for Parkside, while
Mateusz Pass finished with nine saves. Pass's nine saves were his second highest single-match total of the year. Parkside still generated stretches of attacking volume, including sequences of six shots with a corner and five shots with a corner, but NMU limited those chances to five total saves.
Parkside absorbed steady first-half pressure as the Wildcats held a 17-3 shot advantage, put six attempts on goal and earned five corners, but Pass stopped all six shots he faced. Parkside generated three shots, including a saved effort from
Massimo Juarez, and the half ended 0-0.
Parkside outshot NMU 14-9 in the second half and put four attempts on goal, with Pablo Seco generating three shots. The Wildcats converted the half's only goal on Luca Rosen's penalty kick at 80:15, while Pass made three saves and Parkside continued to press with five shots after the 79th minute.
Pass recorded nine saves over 90 minutes, making six in the first half and three in the second.
Angel Luevano led Parkside with four shots. Seco added three shots, putting one on goal.
Parkside is 3-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in GLIAC play. The Rangers have now dropped two straight matches and three of their last four matches. The Wildcats are 7-2-2 overall and 4-0-2 in GLIAC play.
