Seco Shines in 3-0 Victory Over Purdue Northwest

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Parkside men's soccer team defeated Purdue Northwest 3-0 Wednesday, snapping a two-match losing streak and earning its first win in more than two weeks.

The Rangers finished with 15 shots to Purdue Northwest's 13 and put seven on goal compared with four for the visitors. The seven shots on target were above the Rangers' season average of 5.9. Mateusz Pass made four saves as the Rangers kept Purdue Northwest off the board, while Seco scored twice to lead the finishing production.

The Rangers finished the first half up 2-0 behind Seco's opening volley from a Lucas Ahonen corner and Keven Sosa's free kick. The first goal of the match came off a near-side corner, with Ahonen sending a curling ball that took a hop through traffic inside the six before Seco volleyed it home. The second goal came off a set piece from right outside the left edge of the 18, with Sosa drilling a shot into the top left corner to double the Rangers' lead to 2-0. Purdue Northwest held a 7-6 edge in shots and a 3-1 advantage in corners, but the Rangers put four attempts on goal and Pass made two saves.

The Rangers outshot Purdue Northwest 9-6 in the second half, with each side generating two corner kicks. Seco scored the half's lone goal in the 84th minute, which proved to be the dagger. Seco played give-and-go with Scheiber just inside the left part of the box, got around a defender, and tucked the ball under the legs of Purdue Northwest keeper Estefano Alvear. Pass made two saves in the half to keep Purdue Northwest off the board and for his four clean sheet of the season.

Seco scored twice on three shots, put two attempts on goal and recorded the game-winning goal. It was Seco's first career brace. Sosa added a goal and placed both of his shots on frame. Pass made four saves over 90 minutes and finished with a shutout. Scheiber recorded an assist and added one shot.

The Rangers are 4-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in GLIAC play. Purdue Northwest moves to 6-3-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play. The win was Parkside's first over PNW at home in nearly three seasons.

Up next, the Rangers host No. 21 Northern Michigan on Friday, Oct. 9, at noon at Wood Road Soccer Field in Kenosha, Wis.
